Xavier Labour Relations Institute


Xavier Labour Relations Institute, widely known as XLRI was born out of the vision of a Jesuit Priest, Father Quinn Enright. Over the last few decades, XLRI Jamshedpur has contributed its best to the professional growth and management of innumerable institutions that serve the public, especially organized industry, labour, service agencies engaged in rural development, education, health and other public systems. In an endeavor to replicate a traditional “Live and Interactive” classroom environment, XLRI Jamshedpur introduced satellite based management programmes. Through satellite medium XLRI Jamshedpur offering Postgraduate Certificate in Business Management (PGCBM), Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management (PGCHRM), Postgraduate Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (PGCLSCM), Postgraduate Certificate in Retail Management (PGCRM) and Postgraduate Certificate in Sales and Marketing Management (PGCSMM) programmes in India using the network and services set up by HCIL and UCS.
Academic Programmes:
1. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
PGDM (BM)
XLRI offers a two-year full time programme on Business Management, on the completion which, candidates are conferred with Postgraduate diploma in Business Management (PGDBM). This programme is extremely prestigious and is rated as one of the finest of its kind in the country. The alumni of this programme currently occupy very significant positions in various industries, both in India and abroad.
The curriculum lays the foundation for a conceptual and analytical understanding of Indian and international business. XLRI’s BM programme is designed to closely integrate current management theory and practice. The course imparts knowledge and fosters attitudes essential for the growth of students into competent, responsible managers. The course has an evolving programme content and is constantly updated to be in tune with the emerging trends.
PGDM (GM)
XLRI offers a fifteen-month full-time residential management program PGDM (General Management), previously known as GMP. Incoming students having a minimum of five years of experience in varied fields like IT/ITeS, Energy/Power, Automobile, Manufacturing etc are crystallized into modern corporate warriors imbibed with a human touch. The course enables students to grasp the latest in management theory, broadens perspectives and launches them into new avenues of problem solving. XLRI’s deep commitment to nation building is demonstrated year on year as the program nurtures socially responsible change agents transforming the business landscape of modern India.
This one of the flagship programs offered by XLRI and this program has received various prestigious accreditations including AMBA, AICTE etc. The superlative course structure combined with the substantial work-experience of the participants makes them highly sought after by the industry post-graduation.

PGDM (Global BM)
Three leading business schools, from three countries with a dominant influence on global economics and culture, have come together to offer an innovative two year, full time Global Business Management program. Their joint objective is to develop a new breed of managers with a truly global mindset- Citizens of the world.
2. SCHOOL OF HUMAN RESOURCES & IR
PGDM (HRM)
The Institute offers a two-year full time Programme in Human Resource Management on the completion of which, students are conferred with Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. The HRM course is the oldest and the most prestigious of the Institute’s teaching programmes. Ranked as the best programme in India and the Asia-Pacific region, it aims to equip the students with the knowledge and skills required for managing HR in a way that contributes to the development of individuals and organizations.
The major thrust areas are Human Resource Planning, Human Resource Information Systems, Selection, Performance Management, Training and Development, Compensation Administration and fostering harmonious employer – employee relationships in the framework of state regulations. This programme has produced some of the top HR professionals in the industry today.
Besides the courses directly related to HRM, the programme also includes a series of courses in various functional areas of management. Being a specialized programme it does not provide for further specialization. Students choose an appropriate mix of elective courses according to their preferences. Graduates of this programme are qualified for executive positions in Human Resources Development, Personnel Management, industrial Relations, Labour Welfare and other related areas. The alumni are occupying senior level positions in private and public sector organizations and in multinational companies in India and abroad.
3. SCHOOL OF ADVANCED MANAGEMENT
M.S. Programme (MPOD)

The Master of Science Program in Positive Organization Development and Change (MPOD), pioneered by the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, USA), is now being offered for the first time in India in partnership with XLRI Jamshedpur. It is specifically geared towards the needs of executives and change agents from around the world who face a torrent of continual change, increasing complexity, and growing interconnectedness in multicultural contexts; and who must respond to these challenges in ways that yield economic value for their organizations while upholding standards of environmental and social responsibility.
4. FELLOW PROGRAMMES
Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a full-time, residential doctoral programme offering studies in different fields of management and functional areas. The programme aims to train prospective scholars to become highly skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in various aspects of management. It primarily aims at preparing students for careers as faculty members at premier academic institutions and for position outside academics requiring advanced research and analytical capabilities.
Executive Fellow Programme in Management (Exec-FPM)
The Executive FPM (EFPM) is a non-residential, Doctoral Programme that has been designed to cater to the scholarly needs of working executives/ managers/ faculty members/ researchers.
5. VIRTUAL INTERACTIVE LEARNING
The Virtual Interactive Learning (VIL) arm of XLRI offers a portfolio of 12 months consolidated programs in different functional areas of Management. Professionals / Executives may complete their management education whilst still being in service or while being involved with their own business. After successful completion of the program students are awarded with a “Postgraduate Certificate”.
VIL offers the following 12 Months academic programs:

6. CORPORATE PROGRAMMES
Management Development Programmes (MDPs)
XLRI has been a pioneer in developing and offering short duration Management Development Programmes (MDPs) with a four decade enviable standing in the committee of B-schools in India. These MDPs are designed keeping in view the ever changing demands on business/professional executives. The programme content of even the standard MDPs is constantly reviewed and changes made therein on a continuous basis. The objective of the MDPs is to help improve management systems and practices in India and other countries in South Asian Region by providing relevant training to the executives of different sectors of the economy operating at different levels in the organizational hierarchy. The participants are equipped with the latest tools, techniques and skills spanning different streams of management such as General Management, Human Resources, Organizational Behaviour, Marketing, Finance, Operations Management, Information Systems, Strategic Management and Industrial Relations.
