Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India and the University of Mumbai, Vidyanagari Campus jointly launched Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CBS) offering high-quality undergraduate teaching embedded in a postgraduate and research environment. CBS offers a five-year Integrated M.Sc. program in the Basic Sciences for students who have completed 10+2 schooling or its equivalent. CBS is an autonomous centre and is governed by a Council chaired by The Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and co-chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai.
Integrated MSc Programme
Students seeking admission to CBS have to appear for a National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) that is conducted at a large number of centres in India. NEST is a common screening test for both CBS and its sister organization, NISER, Bhubaneswar and Santiniketan. Selected students are called for counseling and admission to CBS. Provisional allotment of streams of integrated M.Sc. courses are made at the time of counseling and students are required to pay fees and other charges in full amount at the time of admission.
Summer Research Programme
Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CBS) also offers Summer Research Programme for undergraduate students.
