British Library-source of knowledge


Libraries are a great source of knowledge. Various news papers, magazines and books of different languages are available in libraries. In the modern world, libraries have become digital helping people to acquire knowledge through online.
Among the libraries in the country, British Council libraries hold a significant position. At present, there are nine libraries functioning in the country under the British Council.
As an individual, family or institution member, you will be able to enjoy state-of-the-art facilities. British Council libraries are social spaces, where you can meet friends and explore resources or attend a skills-based workshop or a lively author event.
Whether you want a quiet space for study or access to some of the best cultural programming in India, you will find everything you need at the British Council library.
How to become a member?
By becoming a member, you will have access to thousands of books, magazines, films, music and newspapers. You can make the most of its quiet and spacious purpose­built study areas or view our large digital collection of e­books, international newspapers and magazines wherever you are.
Mainly, there are three types of memberships plans:
1. Individual membership
To become an individual member there is an annual fee of Rs,1,600.
Entitlement: Borrow up to six of the following items at any one time:
books from the general collection
CDs and DVDs from the general collection
magazines and newspapers
Plus unlimited online access to:
120,000 academic e­books
4,000+ international newspapers and magazines
65 contemporary UK magazines
5,000 award-winning independent movies
350,000 English literature titles (poetry, prose, drama and literary critiques)
40,000 online learning modules (videos and presentations)
16,000 digital graphic novels and comic books
1,000+ audio books
2. Family Membership
To take family membership, there is an annual fee of Rs. 3,700.
Entitlement: Borrow up to 14 of the following items at any one time:
books from the general and children’s collections
CDs and DVDs from the general and children’s collections
magazines and newspapers
Plus unlimited online access to:
120,000 academic e­books
4,000+ international newspapers and magazines
65 contemporary UK magazines
5,000 award-winning independent movies
350,000 English literature titles (poetry, prose, drama and literary critiques)
40,000 online learning modules (videos and presentations)
16,000 digital graphic novels and comic books
1,000+ audio books
3. Online membership
To become an online member, there is an annual fee of Rs. 1100.
Entitlement: Unlimited online access to:
120,000 academic e­books
4,000+ international newspapers and magazines
65 contemporary UK magazines
5,000 award-winning independent movies
7,000 academic e-journals
350,000 English literature titles (poetry, prose, drama and literary critiques)
40,000 online learning modules (videos and presentations)
16,000 digital graphic novels and comic books
1,000+ audio books
